RWH – Rain water harvesting (RWH) is a technique used for collecting, storing, and using rainwater for landscape irrigation and other uses. The rainwater is collected from various hard surfaces such as roof tops and/or other types of manmade above ground hard surfaces.

SWM – Solid waste management (SWM) is the systematic control of the generation of waste, and its separation at source, collection, transport, storage, processing, recovery, and disposal of waste. The waste that is handled is wet or dry, and organic (compostable) like kitchen waste, or recyclable such as paper, plastics, and glass.

WWTP/STP/ETP – A wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is a series of physical structures where several physical, biological, or chemical processes are used to remove harmful substances from the water so that it can be safely discharged into the environment, or that it can be reused for certain purposes.

Information Technology (IT)

PAN – The main purpose of a permanent account number (PAN) is to provide a broadly-accepted means of identification to all financial transactions. It also serves the purpose of preventing the evasion of tax. This is done by keeping track of monetary transactions of individuals of high net worth.

TAN – A Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) is issued to people who are required to collect tax on payments made by them under the Indian Income Tax Act of 1961. Payments made are deposited under TAN to enable the claiming of the deducted tax in the income tax return.

eTDS – Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) is a means of collecting income tax in India, and comes under the Income Tax Act (1961). eTDS is a TDS return prepared in Form no. 2426 in the established format, and is in electronic form.

Digital signature – A digital signature is a mathematical scheme that is used to indicate that a digital message or document is authentic. When a valid digital signature is used, the recipient has reason to believe that the digital message/document was created by a known sender. The sender cannot deny sending the message, and assurance is provided that the message was not altered during transit. Digital signatures are used in financial transactions and in other cases where the detection of forgery or tampering is important.
